Full of Mavericky Goodness....

Maverick (n) - someone who exhibits great independence in thought and action.

It seemed that, once upon a time, being a maverick meant standing up to your own political party, doing what you think is right.

Now it seems to be an excuse for any bad decision somebody makes, or a cover for obvious pandering.

The last choice I recall that was as "mavericky" as McCain's selection of Palin? G.W.'s nomination of Harriet Miers for the Supreme Court. And no, I'm not saying that Harriet Miers wasn't qualified for the job - just that she was picked for reasons unrelated to her qualification and without any regard for whether she was the best possible choice.

So I guess this means that McCain is a maverick - just like Bush.
