The First Thing We Do, Let's Kill All The Teachers

George Will offers a ramble on education reform today, which seems to boil down to a belief that schools will be better if we have fewer teachers who earn less pay and enjoy fewer job protections. I guess Will sees teachers as being like capital gains taxes - the more you cut, the better off you are (as long as you don't pay attention to, say, reality).

  1. I started to read it. I really did. But if I read it, I will hunt that little asshole down, rip off his head and shit down his neck. And then I will be arrested, lose my good public school teaching job, and he will be in the afterlife, laughing at me.

Seriously though, I always question the folks who want public school teachers to make less money. They never complain say, about university professors making scads of money. While I am not a raging feminist (or really any kind of feminist), I do often wonder if this inconsistency is due to the fact that many K-12 teachers are girls and university professors are boys.

And PS: I used to be a lawyer too. It wasn't for me by a long shot.

  3. The current attack on the teaching profesion is nothing more than an extention of society itself. Since parents, and students, themselves, are held responsible for nothing, it's no wonder that teachers are the current "fall guys". Blame is a sad replacement for honesty, decency, and character!
