Advice for Columnists
Johann Hari of London's Independent has some advice for would-be columnists, which I think is worthy of reading for all people who are interested in serious, analytical writing - bloggers included.
I will concede that it can be great fun to ignore this advice, push buttons, present unfair or fallacious arguments, and... well, to try to figuratively give your rhetorical opponents a stroke. But, whatever place flame wars and provocations have in online forums, even in that context it is probably best to resist temptation and to follow his advice.... (For those of us who love to argue, sometimes just for the sake of arguing, that could be a real sacrifice. ;-)
