Carte Blanche for Assange?

A waggish suggestion for Julian Assange:
If I were Assange right now, I would be out committing every possible crime I could, because who would believe the authorities?

"Assange ran into a Chuck E. Cheese and punched out all the automatons? Shyeah right. Yeah, that timing's not coincidental."

"Assange ran into the Canadian embassy, took off his pants and scooted his butt up and down the carpets like a dog for twenty minutes? What-ever, CIA."

"Assange went into a drive-through twenty times and slapped the guy at the window every time he went through? Try again, CIA, try again."

  1. I'm glad I'm not the only one who was thinking that. "He can't be guilty of rape, it's dirty tricks!" I mean, yes, I'm down with presuming him innocent until proven guilty, but c'mon. That's different than "he's innocent because the government hates him." And the idea that a rape charge would turn people against Assange is nonsense, particularly when you realize how hostile Assange's supporters would be to such an accusation.

  2. . . . and the facts alleged are not what you would "fabricate" if you were out to frame him.

  3. Given the reality of the charges, though, or what they appear to be, even if Assange is arrested they may not be sufficient to justify extradition. On the other hand, they may be enough to justify excluding Assange as an undesirable alien....

  4. Exactly, CWD - wouldn't you come up with something uglier where it was much harder to blame the victim?

From what I read of his appearance in a British court he isn't trying to do himself any favors.

  5. Setting aside the whole issue of how Mossad or the "new" KGB would deal with a similar situation . . . it seems like at a minimum a "dirty tricks" campaign would involve him being found with drugs, date rape drugs, and/or child porn and then tied to either a traditional rape or a sex with a child type charge . . .

Assuming the Swedish Gov't bore him any ill will at all it seems like they would have charged him with rape and then when and if the specific facts (which would come out much later) came out the resulting reduction in the charge would be covered by the LIO for the offense charged . . .

. . . but if you really want a good paranoid conspiracy story you charge him with some sort of rape type offense involving a minor and that way you don't have to produce your victim anywhere near as early in the process and you cut "way back" on the blame the victim stuff (of course we can't identify the victim, but let me just tell you what an innocent naive little waif she was before . . .)

  6. You don't actually need a victim as such. You can prosecute somebody in this country for a child sex charge based upon electronic communications between that person and an adult pretending to be a minor.
