I don't make it a secret that I hate class action "settlements" that give the class members coupons - often coupons most will find useless - while giving the lawyers who filed the actions boatloads of cash. My proposals are a bit different, but I can understand why a judge would be tempted to order the class lawyers paid with the same coupons they have argued are good enough for everybody else.
But judges... probably should resist that temptation.
