The "S" Word?

That's right, folks. When you run your business into the ground and the government rushes in to give you billions of dollars, allowing you to stay out of bankruptcy, keep the lights on, and pay your employees, anybody who criticizes the fact that you use government money to give oversized bonuses to the people who ran your company into the ground is... a socialist.

Well, better that type of "socialism" than lemon socialism, right?

  1. Actually, it seems to me that the person who argues that "everyone should get a bonus" whether they turned a profit or not is the socialist . . .

  2. No - it's only socialism when you tell them what they can't do with the government money that's keeping the lights on and paying their bonuses. (What sort of commie are you?)

  3. The kind who thinks that even if compensation is limited to 400K a year these companies will be able to find leadership that is at least as competent as they have now at up to 5M a year . . . : )

  4. It's a funny thing about the world of business. I suspect you're right - but I also suspect that executives presently making $1mm or more will decline the $400K job.

  5. Silly honest person. You think they won't be able to squeeze enough benefits, perks and unreported goodies out of a job that officially pays $400K to make up the difference?

  6. I think that if you draft the language tightly enough, you should be able to stop them from "actually" getting more than twice what they should . . .

But you need to be careful Mythago, someone is going to start to think you are getting cynical. : )

Aaron - Some will, but some people will be interested in the positions just so that they can show the world that "they" can do it . . . whether they actually can or not, is of course, another issue.
